As winter draws to a close and we prepare to trade-in our heavy-drape garments for more light-weighted fabrics and knits, a bodysuit is a must-have in your closet this summer. Something to lounge around in during the warmer weathers and beach days, the new Full Cream Bodysuit by Ezokhetho is the perfect piece. Made from knitted cotton blends, it comes in muted tones of spicy mustard and pastel brown. Mihlali Ndamase shows off this garment in boldness and chic in her recent retro-style photo series “Diary of a 70s Housewife”.

Adorned in a golden glow of a vintage Hollywood glam makeup style, Mihlali makes her appearance at the Four Seasons Hotel in Johannesburg, South Africa, dressed in Ezokhetho’s Full Cream Bodysuit complemented by fishnet stockings and off-white platform heels. Exuding energy so carefree and cinematic she could have her own Barbie doll modelled in her likeness. Pictured in a retro-style minimalist suite decorated with Nelson Mandela’s pictures on the walls, she appears doing mundane tasks and house chores while looking chic and aesthetically pleasing. This is an instalment part of an ongoing photo series where she revisits the 1970s style in what feels like a cameo from a 70s black soap opera. Known for her fine taste in fashion, Mihlali shows you why a knitted cotton bodysuit is the excellent choice this summer.

What makes this bodysuit the perfect summer wear is the knitted cotton blend fabric it’s made from - it retains the natural softness of cotton, offers breathability, and moisture-wicking properties that helps keep cool under extreme heat. These kinds of textiles are also known to be wrinkle resistant with excellent die retention for vibrant colours. Not to mention the excellent display of craftsmanship in creating a piece that isn’t usually made from knitwear. The short sleeves are also a great touch, they make it easy to style the bodysuit with a pair of jeans for a more elevated casual look.

But the allure lies in the geniusness of the design, fashioned after a South African staple, Amasi Full Cream (fermented milk), specifically by Inkomazi. The design bears a resemblance to the packaging by Inkomazi, including its print and muted colours. It’s the perfect representation of Mzansi culture in a sense, and the ‘Full Cream’ can be seen as portraying something that’s more ripe and refined. This speaks volumes in terms of what Ezokhetho represents as a clothing brand, it brings us closer to their space and worldview.
